  • The Awli @ The Hall

Following the demise of the Awliscombe village pub, we decided to reduce the loss to the community and open the village hall as a 'pop up pub' and as of January 2026 we have a permanent alcohol licence allowing us to be spontaneous and responsive to events. e.g. England in the final of the world cup!!

Why the Awli? At the height of it's glory days, the pub was called the Awliscombe Inn and was always referred to as 'The Awli'.

Check out what's on on the events page.

    Behind the Scenes

We want the lunches to be welcoming, safe and enjoyable for everyone. Volunteer cooks will complete basic online food hygiene training, menus will list all ingredients clearly, and attendees will be asked to complete an allergy declaration form.

    How You Can Help

A rota of volunteers will run the lunches. If you’d like to help with cooking, serving, washing up, driving people to the hall, or simply lending a hand, Liz and Sarah would love to hear from you.    This is a wonderful opportunity to bring villagers together, meet new people and enjoy a hearty meal in great company. Whether you’d like to volunteer or simply come along for lunch, we’d be delighted to welcome you.                                                                                                                 Sarah Dent

Short mat bowls is an indoor, year-round target sport where players roll bias-weighted balls called "woods" down a mat to get them closer to a smaller target ball, the "jack," than their opponent's bowls. The game is played on a smaller mat (around 45 feet long) and a key difference from lawn bowls is the presence of a central wooden block that must be played around, making it a game of skill and strategy. The objective is to score points by having your bowls closer to the jack than your opponent's at the end of an "end," with a bowl that hits the central block or goes off the sides being removed from play.
