Following the demise of our village pub we decided to reduce the social loss and open the village hall as a 'pop up pub'. The pub used to be called the Awliscombe Inn and was always referred to locally as 'The Awli'.

Short mat bowls is an indoor, year-round target sport where players roll bias-weighted balls called "woods" down a mat to get them closer to a smaller target ball, the "jack," than their opponent's bowls. The game is played on a smaller mat (around 45 feet long) and a key difference from lawn bowls is the presence of a central wooden block that must be played around, making it a game of skill and strategy. The objective is to score points by having your bowls closer to the jack than your opponent's at the end of an "end," with a bowl that hits the central block or goes off the sides being removed from play.

Knit & Stitch Club – Creativity, Conversation, and Community

The Knit & Stitch Club is a friendly, relaxed gathering for anyone who loves to create with yarn, thread, or fabric—whether you’re a seasoned crafter or a complete beginner picking up needles for the first time. Each session is a cosy blend of creativity and conversation, where members bring along their knitting, crochet, embroidery, patchwork, or any other portable craft project.
The atmosphere is welcoming and supportive, making it the perfect place to learn new skills, share tips, or simply enjoy a peaceful moment with like-minded makers. Experienced crafters are always happy to offer guidance, and newcomers are encouraged to try something new at their own pace.
With plenty of chatter, laughter, and the gentle click of needles, the Knit & Stitch Club is more than just a crafting group—it’s a warm social space where friendships grow and creativity thrives. Whether you come for inspiration, company, or the joy of making something by hand, you’ll find a lovely community waiting to welcome you.
