The Awli @ The Hall
Last updated at 19:55 on 24 May 2026Share on FacebookFollowing the demise of the Awliscombe village pub, we decided to reduce the loss to the community and open the village hall as a 'pop up pub' and as of January 2026 we have a permanent alcohol licence allowing us to be spontaneous and responsive to events. e.g. England in the final of the world cup!!
Why the Awli? At the height of it's glory days, the pub was called the Awliscombe Inn and was always referred to as 'The Awli'.

Short mat bowls is an indoor, year-round target sport where players roll bias-weighted balls called "woods" down a mat to get them closer to a smaller target ball, the "jack," than their opponent's bowls. The game is played on a smaller mat (around 45 feet long) and a key difference from lawn bowls is the presence of a central wooden block that must be played around, making it a game of skill and strategy. The objective is to score points by having your bowls closer to the jack than your opponent's at the end of an "end," with a bowl that hits the central block or goes off the sides being removed from play.Location Greenway Lane, Awliscombe, EX14 3PJ Room/Space Main Hall When Wednesdays at 2pm - 5pm , 7pm - 10pm Contact Brian Marshall Phone (UK) 07808 733722 -
